We’re all aware of the term ‘buzz band’, right? It’s something applied to emerging artists who are riding the (usually online) cultural chatter, the ‘band of the moment’ if you will. It’s obviously a horrific title to apply to any new band, as although it suggests excitement among the taste-makers, it’s likely to burn bright, but ultimately burn out as fast as it arrived. It’s temporary. It’s brief. It’s deadly and no bands want their hard work to be labelled as something that’s so instantly due for rapid decline.

Menomena

Menomena are an experimental rock band from Portland, Oregon, made up of Brent Knopf on guitar, keyboards, and glockenspiel; Justin Harris on bass, guitar, baritone sax and alto sax; and Danny Seim on percussion. All members of the band share singing duties. The band formed in late 2000, when Knopf graduated from Dartmouth College and returned to Portland to collaborate with Harris and Seim. They played their first show in July 2001, at The Meow Meow, a now-defunct all ages venue in Portland.

Xiu Xiu

Xiu Xiu is an experimental band originally from San Jose, California and currently based in Durham, NC and Brooklyn. The band is named after the main character of the 1998 Chinese film "Tian yu" (a.k.a. "Xiu Xiu: The Sent Down Girl") Xiu Xiu was first formed in 2000 and is the main project of singer-songwriter Jamie Stewart, who records with friends on his home computer. Stewart's cousin, Caralee McElroy joined the band in 2003 and was the only other permanent member of the band until her departure in early 2009.

4. Lead artist behind the band Idaho 1) Jeff Martin was the lead vocalist and frontman of the Canadian rock band The Tea Party who is currently based in Perth, Australia. After the band broke up in 2005 he launched a solo career, and released his first solo album titled Exile and the Kingdom in April 2006.

Made In China

This page represents several different artists/bands using the name Made in China 1) Made in China was a post-hardcore\neocrust band from Moscow, Russia. The band disbanded in the fall of '09. Former members of the band formed post-metal outfit Cikuta. 2) Made in China (or Maiden China according to some) is four piece Prunk (mix of Prog and Funk) band, hailing from Omagh, N. Ireland. At the moment the band is on a hiatus as three members of the band go to university in a foreign land. However the band regularly reunites for the holidays to play gigs in and around Omagh.

Twelve Foot Ninja are a rock band from Melbourne, Victoria. They formed in 2007. Melbourne Australia based Twelve Foot Ninja are independent and self-funded. Their music and lyrics are inspired by a story (written by guitarist Stevic) of a ninja's mission to restore balance in a world headed toward self-inflicted catastrophe. Sound familiar? Panta Rei

1) Panta Rei was an early Swedish progressive rock band. They released a self-titled album in 1973. Not to be confused with the similarly named Panta Rhei. The band played psychedelic rock/blues. The setting on the record was as follows: Leadsinger Georg Trolin, Cary Wihma on bass, Tomo Wihma played the drums, Thomas Arnesen on guitar and Leif Östman also on guitar and Göran Freese on sax.
