Double Entendre

Sounding like a pack of untamed gypsies singin', pickin', screamin' and skankin' with flailing limbs to a grinding Balkan barbershop-doof-quartet at a drunken barnyard rasta hoedown, Double Entendre's high-energy trademark style of "GypRock" shakes stirs and blends genres of world music, gypsy jazz and roots into their own intoxicatingly dancy original concoction. With unshakable vibe and a strong, healthy pulse, these vagabonds from WA's alternative capital of Fremantle jam-pack a double-bass, drums...

The Necks

The Necks are an experimental jazz trio from Sydney, Australia, comprising Chris Abrahams on piano and Hammond organ, Tony Buck on drums and Lloyd Swanton on bass guitar and double bass. The band plays improvisational pieces of up to an hour in length that explore repeating musical figures. As well as jazz, they are strongly influenced by Krautrock.

Typically, a live performance will begin very quietly with one of the musicians playing something very simple. One by one, the other two will join with their own melodies, all three independent yet intertwined. A piece of music usually lasts about 45 minutes and over this time grows in volume and pace and complexity before petering out. They are quite simply an extraordinary live experience.

The Necks are also well known in Europe. Their soundtrack for The Boys was nominated for ARIA Best Soundtrack Album, AFI Best Musical Score and Australian Guild of Screen Composers Award. They have also recorded soundtracks for What's The Deal? (1997) and In the Mind of the Architect (three one-hour ABC-TV documentaries, 2000). Read more on Last.fm. Parades

Parades are a young art rock band from Sydney who wisely choose to create their own music with no outside input or interference. The album is expansive and ambitious; a haze of pop harmonies, post rock guitars and electronic meanderings. Drum Media did a great job describing the band when they said

Lucky Elephant

Lucky Elephant are united in a desire to provide warm, inviting, melodic, challenging, fresh music. The 4 dashing young blades armed only with a collection of high maintenance, but hugely loveable old synths, tape delays, Wurlitzers, harmoniums, drums, ukuleles and guitars stride proudly out to battle – confident that the truth will out, and that once again music can provide inspiration and comfort.

Hearing Cavalcade, a 5-piece from Lansing (MI), answers some age old questions. For instance: "What would it sound like if Karp grew up listening to Darkthrone?" or "What would it sound like if Jeff Walker from Carcass fronted a more-Black Sabbath obsessed version of Cursive?" These are no age-old questions of yours you say? Well...

Five Star Prison Cell

Dubiously labeled a "Tech metal", or "Math Rock" band, Five Star Prison Cell offer a different and non-conformist approach to songwriting. Brutally heavy, Dark and forboding with the ability to switch time, pace, genre and style at the drop of a hat; Adam, Cam, Mark and Marc take great pleasure in constantly challenging themselves while at the same time serving up a dish of fresh new and always evolving ideas to their unsuspecting but ever growing fan base.
