The Necks

The Necks are an experimental jazz trio from Sydney, Australia, comprising Chris Abrahams on piano and Hammond organ, Tony Buck on drums and Lloyd Swanton on bass guitar and double bass. The band plays improvisational pieces of up to an hour in length that explore repeating musical figures. As well as jazz, they are strongly influenced by Krautrock.

Typically, a live performance will begin very quietly with one of the musicians playing something very simple. One by one, the other two will join with their own melodies, all three independent yet intertwined. A piece of music usually lasts about 45 minutes and over this time grows in volume and pace and complexity before petering out. They are quite simply an extraordinary live experience.

The Necks are also well known in Europe. Their soundtrack for The Boys was nominated for ARIA Best Soundtrack Album, AFI Best Musical Score and Australian Guild of Screen Composers Award. They have also recorded soundtracks for What's The Deal? (1997) and In the Mind of the Architect (three one-hour ABC-TV documentaries, 2000). Read more on Last.fm. Lopaka

Lopaka is a super-groovy bunch of dudes from the ex-band, My Cat Drinks Tap Water, who wanted to make math music. Their original attempts at such were futile and full of short comings.
As such, the 3 young men attempting this feat parted ways briefly to each undergo their own spiritually revealing journey. On said journeys, the men discovered the root of their being and unlocked the infinite potential of their creativity and understanding of their surroundings.

The band consists of Bradford Cox (vocals, guitar, piano), Moses Archuleta (drums, synths), Lockett Pundt (guitar, organ, vocals) and Josh Fauver (bass, vocals). The band has weathered chaotic line-up changes, the death of a member, and much discouragement.

Stitched Vision

Stitched Vision is Jason Campbell, once global roamer now fringe-dwelling citizen of Newcastle, Australia. His pedal-heavy synthscapes are neither nostalgic nor futuristic, but rather channel the current plight of his city of residence, unfolding as explorations of urban decay and cultural regeneration. Understated melodies sheathed in white noise – pitting the organic against the industrial – mark Campbell’s work and come to symbolise Newcastle’s attempts at rejuvenation beyond its steelworks and coal exporting harbour (the largest in the world).
