Psychedelic Rock

The Maze

An obscure San Francisco-area group that cut one extremely rare album in 1968, Armageddon (recorded at Leo Kulka's Golden State Recorders, and issued on MTA), which is highly valued in some collector circles. Actually, they don't rank as a very impressive find, in fact epitomizing some of the period's least enduring excesses. They originally recorded under the name Stonehenge, with a female vocalist, before assuming their more familiar name, and left behind a good deal more than an album's worth of tracks, some of which turned up on the 1995 Sundazed CD reissue of Armageddon.

Moon Duo

San Francisco’s Moon Duo was formed in 2009 by Sanae Yamada and Erik Johnson (Wooden Shjips). Inspired initially by the legendary duo of John Coltrane and Rashied Ali, Moon Duo counts such variant groups as Silver Apples, Royal Trux, Moolah, Suicide, and Cluster as touchstones. Utilizing primarily guitar, keyboards, percussion and vocals, the duo plays space against form to create a primordial and disorienting sonic stew.

The Ovals

If the creation of a new star were audible, then we would sound like it. If one of those moments when life becomes conscious of itself had a song, then it would be ours. If getting lost in between the beats of a vast rolling groove was like floating through the orbits of the planets, then we would be your space vessel. So please, take off your shoes, sit down or move around, and let the music take you on a journey into Inner Space.

Mezzanine

Mezzanine is an indie rock band from Perth, Western Australia.

Channeling the ghost of a time when rock was straight up and actually meant something, Mezzanine have an attitude that pretension dares not fondle. They energise and humanise the Perth music landscape with power chords and passion, drawing teeth from the likes of Thurston Moore, Anton Newcombe and Stephen Morrissey. A self professed loud and energetic combo, they play each show like it's the last 30 minutes of their lives. They put pen to Pro Tools in February 2011, emerging with their first Extended Player, Novella.

Blonde On Blonde

There are at least three bands who perform under the name Blonde On Blonde: a) Blonde on Blonde was a guitar-led psychedelic rock group from South Wales. The band was originally formed in Newport in 1967 by vocalist/guitarist Ralph Denyer, drummer Les Hicks, bassist/organist Richard Hopkins and guitarist/sitar player Gareth Johnson. Even though they enjoyed strong reviews from music critics and achieved massive exposure playing before gigantic crowds at the 1969 Isle of Wight festival, they never managed to generate much in the way of sales. They disbanded in early 1972.

Tame Impala

Tame Impala is a psychedelic rock band from Perth, Australia. It is the project of Kevin Parker who writes and records almost all of the music by himself. The live band consists of Kevin Parker (lead guitar and vocals), Dominic Simper (guitar and synth), Jay Watson (synth and backing vocals), Julien Barbagallo (drums), Nick Allbrook (ex-bassist) who decided to leave the band mid 2013 and is now being replaced by their close friend, Cam Avery (from The Growl).

Their name refers to the impala, a medium sized antelope. Their musical sound draws from a wide range of influences (most notably '60s and '70s psychedelic rock) and they like to see themselves as "a steady flowing psychedelic groove rock band that emphasizes dream-like melody."

The band signed a worldwide deal with label Modular Recordings in mid 2008, releasing their self titled EP in late 2008 and the single 'Sundown Syndrome' in 2009. Their debut album, "Innerspeaker", was released in 2010 to widespread critical acclaim. Their sophomore, "Lonerism", was released on October 5th, 2012, again to wide acclaim. Their third album, "Currents", followed in the summer of 2015.
