Dominick Martin aka Calibre is the 1st exclusively Irish Drum and Bass artist. Classically trained in violin, he dropped this for drums and began playing in various bands, before finding early Detroit techno and house. His inspiration around that time is said to wander around the likes of Kenny Larkin, Carl Craig, Juan Atkins, the Orb. His brother introduced Calibre to drum and bass and jungle, which at first he couldn’t follow the pattern as he felt it was too relentless and 'beaty', and so at that point he preferred four to the floor drumbeats from the US house style.
'18 year old Josh Jackson, now signed to Nu Urban Music, has been involved with music from an early age. Now with several 12" releases in the pipeline, and frequent radio and DJ support, he is now being recognised as one to look out for in the not to distant future. From Gregs Myspace: Greg began Dj-ing in 1989 at the age of 17 shortly after emigrating to Perth Western Australia from Northampton England, he had been a heavy collector of vinyl since 1982 and since he already had a collection of 1000+ he decided it was time to purchase some decks and get seriously into dj-ing. The music Greg was collecting in the 80's was mainly hip hop, electro, soul & funk and a bit of reggae/dub, when he began mixing it was strictly hip hop until late 1990 when Greg was taken to a club in Perth called Limbo's and heard a Dj 'Dave Jackson' spin some early house...
There are at least two artist with name Makoto: 1. Based in Tokyo, Makoto Shimizu, better known as simply Makoto, is Japan's chief Drum & Bass ambassador. After completing an Acoustic Engineering major at Nippon University, Makoto first signed with LTJ Bukem's legendary Good Looking Records back in 1999.
Since then he has gone from strength to strength, releasing a long string of quality music in the form of singles and EP's, but also on the famous 'Earth' and 'Progression Sessions' compilation albums.
