It’s no secret that the landscape of Birds of Tokyo’s home of Western Australia; a desert-like state so vast and unforgiving that to provide it with a soundtrack requires a higher level of grandeur and majesty one would ever dare associate with the ‘pop’ music tag. But, down to its bones, pop music is what Birds of Tokyo write… they just layer those bones in muscle, and give the beast a heart.

As confrontational as it is vulnerable, her characteristically anguished howl and moan conceals an undercurrent of hot-blooded intensity within the poetry and grunge-fuelled candour of her music and band The Rockin' Pneumonia (consisting of: Abbe May (Vocals, Guitar, Ukelele), K.T Rumble (Lead Guitar), Rodeo Stone (Bass), Pickett (Drums, Vocals)).
There hasn’t been an Australian band like The Siren Tower in quite some time. That is, a band distinctly and unmistakably Australian. The country and culture that The Siren Tower celebrates in story and song has both dignity and conscience in tact. It is an Australia of Indigenous, convict and immigrant history alike, because that is the truth of things, and the truth always makes for a better story.
