The Sisters of Mercy

Originating from Leeds, the Sisters of Mercy were described by critic Steve Huey as playing "a slow, gloomy, ponderous hybrid of metal and psychedelia, often incorporating dance beats." The one constant in the band's career has been deep-voiced singer Andrew Eldritch. The band is named after the Leonard Cohen song "Sisters Of Mercy" according to Eldritch. The band originally formed in 1980 with guitarist Gary Marx and drummer-turned-vocalist Eldritch.

The Walkmen

The Walkmen are an American indie rock band, with members based in New York City and Philadelphia. Hot Snakes

Hot Snakes was an American post-hardcore band led by Rick Froberg and John Reis, formed in 1999. Reis and Froberg had previously performed together in Pitchfork and Drive Like Jehu while living in San Diego, CA during their youth. Although they share sonic similarities with bands its members had previously been involved with, Hot Snakes' sound was much more punk-influenced than Drive Like Jehu and Pitchfork.

Pel Mel

Pel Mel were an Australian post-punk music band. They formed in Newcastle, Australia in mid 1979 and moved to Sydney, Australia in late 1980. They toured and recorded until 1984. They had some success in Sydney's inner-city music scene and released their debut single <a title="Pel Mel – No Word From China" href="http://www.last.fm/music/Pel+Mel/_/No+Word+From+China" class="bbcode_track">No Word From China</a> in 1980. By the time they released their 1983 album <a title="Pel Mel - Persuasion" href="http://www.last.fm/music/Pel+Mel/Persuasion" class="bbcode_album">Persuasion</a>, they had developed a light indie pop sound. The album had limited commercial success and Pel Mel disbanded shortly afterwards. Some of the members played in the the band The Limp.

The Stabs

Formerly called Jodi Moore as a tribute to an acquaintance who didn't want the honour of seeing her name in the street press, The Stabs acquired their new name not long after starting to play irregular gigs at small Melbourne venues around 2003. They have the honour of clearing the 'Airport Lounge' at Monash Uni faster than any other lunchtime act, with only three diehards ending up braving the wall of noise for the whole set.

Sugar Army

Trying to describe Sugar Army is both joyfully easy and nightmarishly hard. On the one hand you can talk in hyperbole and superlatives, and cover the essential description – that the band is quite unarguably beyond compare – but to try and describe their sound in detail is infinitely more difficult. As you listen to The Parallels Amongst Ourselves, you’ll come to understand just why this is the case, and that it is a very cool problem to have. Ides of March

1) Were a Swindon, UK post-punk band active in the late 1980's, releasing two singles on RS Records, both in 1986, a 7" and a 12" respectively. A contemporary magazine, Melody Maker described them as 'The Cure meets The Cult'. The Rapture

There are two bands sharing the name Rapture:
1. An American dance-punk group
2. A common mistake for a finnish death/doom band actually called "Rapture". 1)The Rapture are an American rock band formed in San Francisco. The band mixes influences of post-punk, dance-punk, acid house, disco, electronica, and more. The Rapture formed in 1998 by drummer Vito Roccoforte and guitarist/vocalist Luke Jenner. After relocating to New York, the original bassist left and was replaced by Matt Safer.
