Darth Vegas

Australian avant-garde or experimental band whose music evokes 50s B-grade horror film and deranged circus mayhem, somewhat in the same vein of Mr. Bungle. Darth Vegas is lead by Michael Lira, formally from Vicious Hairy Mary.. Thus far the band has only released one official studio album but still tour locally with a 7-piece-band. Many of the members are currently working on The Tango Saloon on Mike Patton's label.

There are at least three artists using this name: 1. A three-piece post-hardcore band from Sydney, Australia, formed in mid-2008, taking inspiration from Fugazi, Gang Of Four, Ohana, To The North and Steve Reich. They are three people living in Sydney who argue amongst themselves about what genre they are (indie punk?), but who also make music that is angular, unadorned, catchy, contemplative and incisive. Mercury Sky is a new project involving long-time musical partners, guitarist Keiren Lovett and drummer Keiran Berry, who found singer/guitarist Austin Uebel and bassist Tim Chambers fresh from other musical projects. Their aim is to combine the love of original music and its complexities within their instruments with the simplicity and wide appeal of rock music to create what could be best called progressive rock/alternative rock, inspired by bands like Incubus, A Perfect Circle and Karnivool.
