If you have been a regular on the Melbourne music circuit over the last few years, chances are you have been motivated to move and groove by the musically creative and talented Tarek Smallman at one time or another, whether it was while he was drumming for bands such as Something For Kate and bZARK, on stage as one half of electric house duo Bionikworld or even behind the decks on his own, where he is more famously known as T-Rek.

Hot Hot Heat

Hot Hot Heat are an indie-rock band from Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. They formed in 1999 as a synthpunk band with Matt Marnik, who eventually left the band, on lead vocals. Steve Bays (vocals and keyboards) took over lead vocals, significantly changing the band's sound. The rest of the band is currently composed of Paul Hawley (drums), Parker Bossley (bass), and Luke Paquin (guitar). Paquin replaced former guitarist, Dante DeCaro, while Bossley recently replaced bassist Dustin Hawthorne. The band's name was contrived by drummer Paul Hawley.

Vox von Braun

Vox von Braun is a four piece indie-pop band from the Netherlands. The band
was founded in 2004 by ‘mastermind’ Wymer Vaatstra (ex-the Gluemen) with the
intention to get his songs outside of his home-studio. The first couple of shows were characterized by lots of noise, creating a sound very reminiscent of shoegaze and 60s
punk rock, nowadays they seem to have found a greater balance between popsongs
and noisy alienation, best described as gritty feedback pop. After several band shifts the current band members are songwriter Wymer

Interpol

At least two bands share their name with the International Criminal Police Organisation, in short Interpol. 1. Interpol is an indie rock band based in New York City, United States, that took an important part in the post-punk revival of the 2000s. The band consists of Paul Banks (vocals and guitar), Sam Fogarino (drums), and Daniel Kessler (guitar and backing vocals). Interpol's sound is characterized by a mix of bass throb and choppy, sparse guitar.

Joel Plaskett

Joel Plaskett is a Canadian rock musician who has been a longtime favourite on campus radio charts throughout the country. He was a member of the Halifax based alternative rock band Thrush Hermit from its founding in 1992 until its breakup in late 1999. Joel was the lead singer and guitar player for the group. He was also the band's primary songwriter. After the breakup of Thrush Hermit, Plaskett embarked on a solo career.

This Town Needs Guns, (sometimes shortened to "TTNG") are a math rock band originating from Oxford in the United Kingdom. They were formed in 2004, and are currently signed to Sargent House (USA) and Zankyo (JP). Their debut full length album, Animals, was released in UK via Big Scary Monsters Recording Company in October 2008 and shortly after in the US via Sargent House Records. The line-up changed in June 2011. Stu Smith left the band to become a father, and he was replaced by Henry Tremain (Pennines).

The Besnard Lakes

The Besnard Lakes are a music band from Montreal, Quebec, Canada, formed by the husband and wife team of Jace Lasek (Vocals/Guitar/Keyboards) and Olga Goreas (Vocals/Bass), and completed by Kevin Laing (Drums) and Richard White (Guitar). According to Songfacts, their name comes from Besnard Lake in North-Central Saskatchewan. The band gained critical attention with their second album, The Besnard Lakes Are The Dark Horse, that was nominated for a Polaris Prize in 2007.

Delta Spirit is a band from San Diego, California, United States, beginning in 2005. The raw spirit of indie rock. An amplified, rocking version of ’60s protest folk. The soulful passion of the Violent Femmes and the Waterboys. All of these comparisons have been made in attempts to describe Delta Spirit, the southern California five-piece who might just be one of the most important new bands of the decade.
