Portishead

Portishead are a band from Bristol, United Kingdom, named after a small coastal town twelve miles west of said musical hotbed, in North Somerset. They were initially known for their use of jazz samples and some hip-hop beats along with various synth sounds and the hauntingly beautiful vocals of singer Beth Gibbons. Their current sound drops the samples in favour of a harder, more abrasive edge, but retains Gibbons' vocals.

Russ Chimes

In a sea of postmodern hipsters come bedroom producers on a sparkling lilo of talent. Russ Chimes is a man from the UK who knows whats in the party. Sounding a bit like something halfway between a Sega game and an airbrushed mural of Wayfarer'd flamingos, Russ Chimes' tunes may at times elicit some degree of nostalgia, although the inherent quality definitley proves he's more about about doing what feels good rather than the irony. (in a manner perhaps akin to funk fanatics Chromeo).

Arguably the most prolific producer on the scene, he set up Valve Recordings in partnership with long-term collaborator Lemon D, with whom he also designed and built the Valve Sound System, purported to be the most bass-heavy system in the world (contrary to rumour it is not the loudest). It is the only sound system designed and built for playing drum and bass.
