There are at least three bands called Girls. 1) In 2006, Christopher Owens and Liza Thorn began a music project called Curls, which dissolved itself when Liza decided to focus more on her new band, BRIDEZ. Not to be dissuaded, Christopher recruited San Francisco's infamous ladykiller Chet "JR" White to join him and changed the band's name to Girls. Chris was formerly a member of Holy Shit with Ariel Pink.
There are several artists named David Myles: 1) Canadian singer-songwriter David Myles' second full-length album, "Things Have Changed", is the latest in a long line of musical achievements. At age eleven, he was a finalist in the Connaught Street School lip synch contest for his version of "Heartbreak Hotel". Ten years later, Myles played with a blues band in a Chinese soccer stadium. The show was televised to millions of people. Back in Canada, he opened for west-coast rap group "The Rascalz" as a beat-boxer. This year he played trumpet on recent but unreleased Buck 65 recordings.
Parades are a young art rock band from Sydney who wisely choose to create their own music with no outside input or interference. Featuring Dan Cunningham, Tim Jenkins, Michael Scarpin and Jonathan Boulet – Parades’ debut album Foreign Tapes is out now via Dot Dash Recordings. Since the EP “The Fauna and The Flora” the band have been busy, not only recording a brilliant debut album, the band moved interstate from their Perth homes and are now residing in Melbourne, where they hit the ground running with shows and recording. Within the move they lost drummer Russell who stayed in Perth who has been replaced by Toby Lang on drums (formerly of The Audreys and Veruca Salt).
Formed by Irit Rozenfeld in late 2007, Oblako Lodka play a delicate blend of rudimentary pop; with atmospheric cycles reminiscent of Colleen, and airy seventh chords; a kind of ambient tropicalia.
Oblako Lodka are Irit Rozenfeld, Jodi Hoffman (véu), Alex Nosek (II, hammocks and honey) and Alexis Hall (The Motifs. Former members include Shaun D'arcy (guitar) and Zoe Jackson (Light Music Club), who played keys for the band's first five shows.
Jane de Jong, better known as Ruby Frost, is an indie pop singer from New Zealand.
The indie four-piece flew overseas in 2008 to play the Great Escape Festival in the UK after Martin Elbourne (former agent of New Order, The Smiths) immediately confirmed City Riots after watching the band perform just a few weeks beforehand. The band was part of a stellar line-up including The Wombats, Vampire Weekend and The Futureheads, as well as playing sideshows at the Camden Barfly and the International Pop Festival in Liverpool.
Sounds Like Sunset's music is a mix of simple songs taken on sort of a wild ride - freely moving in directions led by huge guitars and feedback, and drawing on influences such as BailterSpace, The Jesus and Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine and the gloomier side of The Beach Boys in equal measure. The band formed in Sydney, Australia in 1997 with David Challinor (vocals, guitar), David Hobson (bass) and Rohan Geddes (drums).
