Brass band from Brisbane, Australia formed in 2011. One drummer, seven horn players (sax, trumpet, french horn, flugal horn, trombone, flute and sousaphone). They call themselves a nu-wave brass band incorporating elements of roots, funk, hip hop and a bit of reggae.
The Idea of North is an Australian a cappella quartet, originally composed of Trish Delaney-Brown (Soprano), Megan Corson (Alto), Nick Begbie (Tenor), and Andrew Piper (Bass). They formed in 1993, while studying music at the Australian National University in Canberra, with their first album The Idea of North recorded in 1997. They followed this up with their second album The Sum of Us. When Megan left to move to Melbourne in 2002, they recruited Naomi Crellin to fill the slot.
Grey Ghost Pianist Roosevelt T. Williams, better known as "Grey Ghost," entertained Central Texas audiences from the 1920s through the 1990s with his jazz-tinged barrelhouse blues. Once called the "Thelonious Monk of Blues," Williams was born Dec. 7, 1903, in Bastrop. Armed with basic musical training as a teen, he used his good ear to absorb African-American, Anglo, Mexican, and Eastern European styles pouring out of area dances and roadhouses. Williams often traveled to and from gigs by slipping onto empty boxcars, which earned him the Grey Ghost appellation.
Somewhere between a 1930s Cuban dance orchestra, a classical chamber music ensemble, a Brazilian marching street band and Japanese film noir is the 12-piece Pink Martini. Part language lesson, part Hollywood musical, the Portland, Oregon-based 'little orchestra' was created in 1994 in Portland, Oregon by Harvard graduate and classically trained pianist Thomas M. Lauderdale to play at political fundraisers for progressive causes such as civil rights, affordable housing, clean water, and public broadcasting. He soon invited fellow Harvard alumna China Forbes to sing with the band.
A respected session and sideman, British blues pianist and composer Jon Cleary has worked with rock, blues, and soul artists like Bonnie Raitt, D'Angelo, Maria Muldaur, Taj Mahal, and Eric Clapton. Originally a guitarist, Cleary began playing at age five, and started his first band at 15. Raised on blues, jazz, and soul records, his love of new orleans blues and jazz in particular took him across the ocean after he graduated from art school.
The Bakery are an 11 piece band from Sydney, Australia. With a sound that is a mixture of funk, reggae and ska these guys have some balls. They have two charismatic female singers whose vocals are comparable to the great Gwen Stefani but with a little more soul, and a five-piece horn section. Roy Ayers was born on September 10, 1940 in Los Angeles. Thanks to his trombone playing father and piano teaching mother, he became immersed in music from day one and the story goes that he was given his first set of vibe mallets by his hero Lionel Hampton at the age of 5. Constantly performing and recording since the 1960s, he is one of the most famous jazz vibraphonists. He has produced some of the most loved modern soul-jazz records of all time such as, "Everybody Loves The Sunshine"...
We are a band from Brisbane, Australia We have a cd-ep, split 7" and a 12" and have 11 songs to record in the second week of may this year (2010). Influences were much more solid in the beginning and although we are still very much inline with them we now listen to absolutely anything we can get our hands on.
