Buffy Sainte-Marie

Buffy Sainte-Marie (born 20 February 1941) is an Academy Award-winning Canadian First Nations musician, composer, visual artist, educator and social activist. She was born on the Piapot Cree reserve in the Qu'Appelle valley, Saskatchewan. She was later adopted and grew up in Maine and Massachusetts. She went on to earn a Ph.D. in Fine Arts from the University of Massachusetts and also holds degrees in both Oriental Philosophy and teaching.

Mzaza

Mzaza is an alternative group of musicians playing folk fusion music inspired by the likes of Lhasa de Sela, Radio Tarifa, Manu Chao, Édith Piaf and Yasmin Levy. Current members are: Pauline Maudy, Greta Kelly, Jordan Stamos, Stephen Cuttriss, Tim Johannessen, Andrew Vievers. In the past Miranda Deutsch played guitar for this group. Mzaza explores the cross roads between ancient and contemporary melodies from France, Spain, the Balkans and the Middle East.

Great Big Sea

Great Big Sea (often shortened to GBS) is a Canadian folk-rock band from Newfoundland and Labrador, best known for performing energetic rock interpretations of traditional Newfoundland folk songs. The band also performs original material. On March 11, 2010, Great Big Sea celebrated their seventeenth birthday as a band. And like almost every one of their many anniversaries spent together, they celebrated it by playing a concert, this one in Omaha, Nebraska.

Defiance, Ohio is a punk band from Columbus, Ohio. They are known for their extensive touring and intense, enthusiastic live shows. They are named (tongue in cheek) after the real town Defiance, Ohio. The band has a unique line-up for a punk act, featuring violin, cello, banjo, acoustic and electric guitars, piano, and electric bass (formerly an upright bass). Since Defiance, Ohio formed in 2002 they have released four full length LPs, Share What Ya Got, The Great Depression, The Fear, the Fear, the Fear, Midwestern Minutes and several singles, B sides and split EPs.

The Trouble With Templeton

The Trouble with Templeton is the moniker of Australian Singer/songwriter Thomas Calder. A unique blend of Alternative Folk, The Trouble With Templeton’s music is about honest feelings and emotional experiences. Somewhere out east, pretty much as east as you can go without leaving this isle, is the Southwold coast. A mystifying place…equal parts picturesque seaside town and desolate, barren frontier – largely determined by how kind the weather is feeling. Amongst the eccentric shoreline, raging waves and shiny pier is a beach hut offering respite from the chill wind – the sort that gives you earache. And it’s in this beach hut, that you’ll often find songwriter Matthew P and his makeshift recording studio.
