The name Browning Mummery was adopted in Sydney in 1983 by Australian electronic musician Andrew Lonsdale (1961-), as a vehicle for his contemporary electronic sound works. The name was taken from the label of an old 78 rpm platter without realising the original history of the artist. Originally never intended to be used for more than one performance (as was common at the time) the name stuck. An Australian electronic group formed in Sydney, Australia in 1979, Severed Heads have released albums ranging from <a href="http://www.last.fm/tag/experimental" class="bbcode_tag" rel="tag">experimental</a> <a href="http://www.last.fm/tag/industrial%20noise" class="bbcode_tag" rel="tag">industrial noise</a> to <a href="http://www.last.fm/tag/synthpop" class="bbcode_tag" rel="tag">synthpop</a> influenced <a href="http://www.last.fm/tag/dance" class="bbcode_tag" rel="tag">dance</a> music. The original members were Richard Fielding and Andrew Wright, and were soon joined by Tom Ellard. This later changed to Garry Bradbury, Paul Deering, and Tom Ellard; Ellard has been the only one to remain throughout the group's career, with changing lineups throughout its two and a half decades of existence, later working mainly with Stephen Jones.

Shiv-r is a new force in the field of dark electronic music. The heavy and unsettling atmosphere generated by the band is at times intended for the clubs, and at times drawn to a slow, grinding pace for full dramatic impact.
The key characteristics of the Shiv-r sound are haunting, neoclassical melodies, harsh percussive club sounds, clean male vocals delivered in shouts and whispers, sparse rhythm guitars and an overwhelming dark atmosphere.
