OPEN FRAME is room40’s annual festival in celebration of avant sound and media . Each year the festival pulls together an eclectic, yet focused array of artists who each test for the boundaries of their given field. In 2010, the festival is celebrating its 5th year and the net has been cast far and wide, hauling in a catch of unique sound experimentalists and song deconstructionists.
From Portland, Grouper (Elizabeth Harris) heads south riding on a wave of echoed reverb and lush dream-like song-scapes. Heralded as one of this decade’s visionary song-crafters Grouper’s live performances are warmly immersive and softly consuming. Calling in from Long Beach, Sun Araw arrive in Oz for the first time, bringing with them a wealth disjointed, distorted psych-pop. Also joining the bill are doom-icons Nadja, noise experimentalist Aidan Baker and lightening strike survivor Lawrence English.
