Writing songs - in 2020/21 couldn't record or play live - was at least something a Musician could do to give voice to what we were all going through.

Now a retrospective, this collection of songs became about life in lockdown, songs of mirth, angst, resilience and hope inspired by Life in the Time of Coronavirus that blurred the lines between the ‘new normal’, the comical and the bizarre.

The show features an all-star line up of members from indie Melbourne rockers The Cracked Jaffers, The Penthouse Paupers, The Huxton Creepers and special guests. Presented by podcasters 80’s Montage, accompanied by video.

Aftershow performance by The Tonalists.

Running times:

  • 7:30PM Doors open
  • 8:00PM Coronavirus the Musical
  • 10:00PM The Tonalists

About the album:

Dave Grabau (Cracked Jaffers, Kodamac) wrote 16 tracks during lockdown, inspired by the upheaval, isolation, challenges, twists and turns in work and personal life that were thrust upon us during the pandemic.

Each song takes a different angle on what the hell happened, whether it’s being stuck inside a 5K radius, having to become your own IT department, discovering what your friends and family really think, political and media madness, new TV ‘experts’, what being stuck in the house did for our relationships…

The album took shape over 2 years in collaboration with fellow musicians who contributed vocals, instrumental parts and arrangement ideas, ultimately completing the recording late 2023 at Homestead Studios, Mount Helen.

Album Personnel:

  • Dave Grabau - Guitars, vocals (Cracked Jaffers)

  • Scott Lacey - drums, vocals (The Breadmakers, The Puritans)
