Charlie Mayfair

In January 2010, a band was born: full of energy, bursting with love and spilling over with songs to sing and stories to tell. This band is Charlie Mayfair. The first part of this year has seen the band racing around their hometown writing songs, making friends, and letting people experience their unique style of folk-fired pop. They hollered their gigs from the rooftops and Brisbane heeded their call.

Plastic Palace Alice

PLASTIC PALACE ALICE hails from Melbourne, Australia. A clue to the eccentric tastes found within lies in the band's choice of name, a reference to a character in a song by the king of existential, heavily orchestrated pop, Mr Scott Walker. Not wanting to place limits on the band's musical palette, Plastic Palace Alice borrows elements from diverse musics: Brechtian cabaret, Phil Spector, garage rock, 60's psychedelic pop and 80's inspired goth melodrama are all found on the band's musical radar.

Tina Harrod

Tina Harrod was born in Christchurch in New Zealand with an ancestry that certainly indicated she might one day become a professional singer. He father was part Fijian and her great grand parents were from Wales and from her very early days she was surrounded by a rich musical legacy. It was no surprise then when at the tender age of five Tina began singing in a local church choir as well as taking dancing classes with a ballet group.

Tomas Ford

Crowds start staring at Tomás Ford before he even drops a beat. He enters, resplendent in sequins, black denim and sparkling make-up. He shakes hands with the crowd, says some polite greetings and makes some small talk. Then he's all over the room. It's sudden; the music's changed... it’s an unusual combination of electro, glam and punk, but it’s definitely got you in a party mood. He’s a fun and disorienting showman, pogo'ing all over the venue, pulling jazz dance moves, launching himself onto unsuspecting crowd members and generally pushing everyone's boundaries.

Wolfmother

Wolfmother is a Grammy Award-winning hard rock band formed in Sydney, New South Wales in 2000. The band originally consisted of Andrew Stockdale (guitar, vocals), Chris Ross (bass, keyboards), and Myles Heskett (drums), though Ross and Heskett left the band in August 2008. With the original line up Wolfmother released one album, Wolfmother, and six singles, the highest-charting of which was "Joker and the Thief" which reached number eight in Australia.

In 2004 Wolfmother began appearing at several high profile music events, such as Homebake and the Big Day Out. They also released their debut self-titled EP through Modular Recordings.

In 2005 the band made their way to Los Angeles, working alongside producer Dave Sardy (of Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Marilyn Manson, and Oasis fame) to record their self-titled debut album, released in October 2005.

In 2006 Wolfmother dominated the Australian Recording Industry Association awards (ARIAs), taking Best Breakthrough Album, Best Rock Album, and Best Group.

In August 2008, after headlining the Splendour in the Grass festival in Byron Bay, Australia, bass/keyboard player Chris Ross and drummer Myles Heskett resigned, leaving just singer/guitarist Andrew Stockdale. Andrew planned to find new musicians before recording another album.

The band officially consists of Dave Atkins on drums, Ian Peres on bass and organ, and Aidan Nemeth as the surprise fourth member and a new guitarist. The new line up's first album, Cosmic Egg, was released in 2009.

Now drummer Dave Atkins has decided to leave the band to spend more time at home with his family; he will be temporarily be replaced by The Mooney Suzuki and Har Mar Superstar drummer Will Rockwell-Scott.

There is only Andrew Stockdale, Chris Ross, and Myles Hessket. The three new guys are only lies. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
