The Waifs (originally styled as The WAiFS) are an Australian folk rock band formed in 1992 in Albany, Western Australia, by Josh Cunningham (guitar, vocals), and sistersVikki Thorn (née Simpson) (harmonica, guitar, vocals) and Donna Simpson (guitar, vocals). Their tour band includes Ben Franz (bass) and David Ross Macdonald (drums).
The band's 2003 album Up All Night reached the top five of the Australian Albums Chart, it achieved double platinum status and won four ARIA Awards in October. Two further top five albums were issued, Sun Dirt Water in 2007 and Temptation in 2011. The Waifs have three top fifty singles, "London Still" (2002), "Bridal Train" (2004) and "Sun Dirt Water". The band supported Bob Dylan on his 2003 Australian tour and then his 2003 North American tour, including a gig at the Newport Folk Festival.
The Waifs founded the independent label Jarrah Records in July 2002, co-owned with fellow musician John Butler, and their common manager Phil Stevens, which handles their Australian releases. Something for Kate formed in Melbourne, Victoria in 1994. The founding members of the three-piece band were vocalist and guitarist Paul Dempsey, bass player Julian Carroll (later to be replaced by Stephanie Ashworth) and drummer Clint Hyndman. After recording a 7-track demo in 1995, the band signed to Murmur Records, a subsidiary of Sony. In 1996, they released the 7-track EP The Answer to Both Your Questions, recorded and mixed by Greg Atkinson of Sydney band <a href="http://www.last.fm/music/Big+Heavy+Stuff" class="bbcode_artist">Big Heavy Stuff</a>.

TZU are an Australian hip hop group, originating from Melbourne, Victoria. The group formed in 1999 as a side project combining members of Curse Ov Dialect and Pan. Members include Joelistics, Countbounce, Pasobionic and Yeroc. They are known for live shows with significant crowd involvement where they will often involve local MCs, and have been known to invite the entire audience on stage. TZU differs from typical hip hop groups because they use instruments in their performances.
Powderfinger are a rock band from Brisbane, Australia. Formed in 1989, the band has managed to keep the same line up since they hit the big time, Bernard Fanning (Vocals, guitars), Darren Middleton (guitars), Ian Haug (guitars), John Collins (Bass) and Jon Coghill (drums). Powderfinger are winners of nearly every major award in Australia – including the ARIA (Australian Record Industry Awards) for Album of the Year, Best Rock Album and Song of the Year.

This opportunity led to a chance meeting with Australia’s indie-pop king, Ben Lee. A mutual desire to collaborate resulted in Sophie working with producer Brad Wood (Liz Phair/Pete Yorn/Smashing Pumpkins) at his leafy Seagrass studios in Los Angeles.
