For a few years now Birmingham artist Brian Duffy's Modified Toy Orchestra has been making electronic music that derives from the modification of toys and releasing it on his own label Warm Circuit. He modifies the circuitry of electronic toys to create instruments that make 'new' and unique sounds.
Electric Jellyfish are a 3-piece collaboration from Melbourne, Australia. The band has extensively toured both Australia and the United States of America since 2007. Their 2008 EP The Woods was recorded entirely analogue by Head Gap studios in Melbourne, Australia, and pressed to cassette by American label Ecstatic Yod. Their 2010 self-titled LP was released in March on Twin Lakes Records.
Russian Circles is a three piece instrumental post-rock/post-metal band from Chicago. The band plays epic, sprawling music which runs the gamut of heavy discordant metal to soft delicate passages. Van Dyke Parks (born January 3, 1943) is an American composer, arranger, producer, and musician, noted for his collaborations with Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys on the legendary album "SMiLE." As a child Parks acted in the 1956 movie The Swan, which starred Grace Kelly. He also worked steadily on television as a child actor between 1953 and 1958, including a role as Ezio Pinza's son on the NBC television show Bonino, as well as a recurring role as Little Tommy Manacotti (the kid from upstairs) on Jackie Gleason's The Honeymooners.
Oren Ambarchi is an electronic guitarist and percussionist, based in Melbourne, Australia, though he was born in Sydney and lived there until the last few years, he has been performing live since 1986. His music often incorporates drones and loops, which he crafts into enigmatic sound worlds with very subtle melodies. His work focuses mainly on the tonal possibilities of the guitar, and is usually produced without the aid of a computer.
Chad Valley – the alias of Hugo Manuel – is part of the same Oxford collective, Blessing Force, that Fixers belong to, and there is a similar feeling of 60s music being given a shimmery modern electronic makeover. But maybe because there's just one of him he is able to give the project greater focus; there is no dilution, or sense of boxes being ticked, with Chad Valley – it's just one idea, gloriously stretched out over four tracks on his sublime self-titled debut EP; one long wave of luxuriant sound after another.
The Mars Volta is an American rock group formed in 2001 by guitarist Omar A. Rodriguez-Lopez and vocalist Cedric Bixler Zavala. They incorporate various influences including post-hardcore, jazz fusion, psychedelia, funk and latin/salsa into their sound. Letlive originaly hail from Westchester, CA. they describe themselves as progressive/hardcore/soul. singer, Jason Aalon has an alomst falsetto voice offset by heavy metal like riffs and breakdowns. he also screams with such intenstity and urgency not heard by many before. During choruses the whole band sometimes 'chants', sounding like a prosession. their second offering, Speak Like You Talk sees a progression with a healthy balance between their loose-and-reckless moments of intensity and their more subtle and haunting sections with lounging melodies and guitar lines.
