Chris Jenkins's blog

V, DMF & other musical acronym

It's been a busy few days, from the fields of Hylands Park to the main stage at Dorset Music Forum.

Thanks to all the artists, managers and promoters who came along to DMF HQ tonight to find out more about the Musicosity project. Your questions and feedback has been great, thank you very much. I'll blog about some of the contributions, including "Musicosity is like a band's CV", something future employers can trust and get references.

Thanks for the emails and well done for those who have already signed up! You can email me on Chris@musicosity.org with any questions or ideas.

Best act at V 2010

Not seen these guys before V this weekend, but they were definitely the best act of the festival. Very original. Go check them out whilst they are playing the little venues.

technology killed the Rock Star

I spoke with a number of bands today about where they want to go with their music, what they get their kicks out of, why they started playing music and then something dawned on me. Not one of them mentioned technology, facebook, myspace... no one said I just love to send messages on social networks, updating my latest movements or spending hours in front of a computer updating 15 websites, subscribing to 30 distribution outlets.

I reckon a change is coming... about time too.

"What's the point in paying for distribution, if no one's gonna buy it?"

Quote of the week "What's the point in paying for distribution, if no one's gonna buy it?". Wise words from an up and coming talent.

Rarely do you hear an artist refer the basic principals of supply and demand.

Brilliant.

New venue for Plymouth

I had the privilege last week of being given a tour of a new venue in Plymouth. Following a huge regeneration project of Devonport, the Guildhall which was built in the 1800s has undergone a terrific faceift, whilst maintaining it's original features. Right in the heart of a new housing develop, I can see it becoming a great space for the area.

(Live) Music while you work

another benefit of using DMF for hot desking is the live background music care or the rehearsal rooms... it's also been known for the piano to be wheeled out at lunch times.

DMF's new venue

I am really looking forward to the opening of the new venue...

a busy office during the day... and thriving venue at night. Quite a unique experience.

Well done everyone.
